Editing the Preliminary Task Film - Lesson 2.

In today's lesson we carried on with the editing. Amie and I sorted out the clips into the right order but one of our clips was corrupted. So, even though it failed the last time, we decided to recapture it off of the tape as our actor was unavailable for filming. This worked and we had a clear picture for the start of our film and put it together with the rest of the film.
We then filmed our match on action shot of the chair swinging round. I filmed this part, Amie directed and Aidan provided us with the hands for the shot as the actor, Jake, wasn't available so we had to improvise.
We then filmed a part from a lower down angle showing the feet swinging around onto the chair as the character in our short film sat down. Amie filmed this shot, I directed and Aidan's feet were used in this part of the film.
When we recaptured this off of the tape onto the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 software, there were a few problems with corrupted captures, but because we filmed the chair swinging around in both shots; when we were editing we cut one shot and made it flow into the next which created an effective, smooth look and got rid of the corrupted parts. After placing them into the correct place we turned these clips black and white and set our contrast on the shots to match the rest of the film and checked it over to see if everything was ok, i.e. the audio and the clips.

Editing the Preliminary Task Film.

In today's lessons we started to edit our film that we filmed last lesson. We captured the film from the tape in the computer onto our own 'T:Drive' and we used Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 in order to edit the film.
We started to do this by capturing the film scene by scene and then renaming each of them. After renaming the clips we watched them back and found two from the start of our film were corrupted, so we deleted them and trimmed another scene to get rid of the corrupt parts. We will have to re-film the start of our film again next lesson.
We arranged all the scenes into order and trimmed them down to what they needed to be. We also learnt how to turn the film into black and white, and fade scenes in and out from a blank screen and we also added a title screen to our film.
We decided that we need a couple more scenes to film like a match on action and other parts to make it better while we still have time.

Preliminary Task.

In today's lesson we started our storyboard on which Amie and I discussed what needed to do for our short film. This storyboard shows what camera shots, zooms and angles we planned to use in our short film for this task.

After this we went to record our short film. Aidan was in charge of the camera and did all the filming and he also casted one other actor, Jake Frost, as I was directing the filming by using the storyboard and Amie was the other actor. Next lesson we plan to edit the film.

Introduction to Coursework and the Use of Cameras.

In our lesson on Tuesday we were introduced to our coursework tasks. The first task was the preliminary task in which we were given our groups and the task of making a short film about someone walking into the room and having a small conversation with another person. This film also had to show use of the 180° rule, shot-reverse-shot and a match on action. The task is worth 15 marks of our overall grade. The second task was the main task which was to do a trailer for a thriller movie. Both of these tasks involve the use of cameras so were given tips and instructions on how to use cameras and I took some quick notes from this and drew some diagrams:

After this we went into our preliminary task groups and started to plan our short film. Aidan, Amie and I discussed what we wanted to do and then briefly planned this out on a Mind Map. This shows where we wanted to film it, how we wanted to film it and who was doing what in the group:
